In order to achieve this, a CFO must have a complete and comprehensive knowledge of the company accounts, keep a tight control of existing company finances and be successful in projecting and directing a business towards it’s financial goals.

Becoming a CFO is often seen as the pinnacle of an accountants career and as such, an prospective CFO must be able to demonstrate the highest level of expertise, experience, and excellence with a significant track record of leadership and results. Chief Financial Offers are more often than not university educated and a member of at least one professional financial body. Increasingly CFO’s are a master’s degree / MBA and with growing competition, some professionals are even earning doctorates.

A CFO would generally expect their basic salary to be in the early six figures, but with bonus, stock options and benefits this figure can often rise to a 7 figure sum.
